Strategic Site Planning for Rural E-commerce: Field Research and Data Analysis

November 2022 – August 2024

Building e-commerce sites in rural areas is not just about putting up a sign. It’s about designing a network of commercial “capillaries.” My role was to provide scientific backing for selecting and managing these sites.

  • In-depth field research: I visited multiple towns on foot, conducting interviews with potential station managers and villagers to understand their needs, habits, and concerns.

  • Data-driven feasibility analysis: I created an evaluation system to continuously track site activity — browsing volume, transaction data, and dwell time — to assess vitality.

  • Tiered management strategy: By analyzing data across sites, we classified them into A/B/C levels. A-class sites showed great potential and received focused support; B-class met basic needs; C-class required optimization.

My report became a key reference for implementing differentiated station management strategies, showing me how data helps us understand and adapt to local ecosystems.
